The big screen spin-off from TV’s high-school comedy The Inbetweeners has broken the UK Box Office record for the opening weekend of a British comedy.
The film took more than £13.2 million at the box office, beating Cowboys & Aliens and Rise of the Planet of the Apes to the top spot in the UK.
The movie, which takes the TV show’s characters on a raucous holiday to Greece, has taken the British comedy box office record from Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason, which took £10 million on its opening weekend in 2004.
Its record was aided by a Wednesday release, which gave it five days of takings towards the recognised total.
Producer Chris Young said he wanted to thank the cinemagoers who helped his film break the record.
