The actor and comedian, Eddie Murphy has been selected by the Producers of the 84th Annual Academy Awards, Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, to host the event, which will be broadcast live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 26th.
Last year, the academy officials hope to attract new young audience to the show by selecting young hosts, Anna Hathaway and James Franco, failed to materialize. This year, they were quick to welcome the veteran comedian in the job.

The star of hit comedies 48 Hrs. and Beverly Hills Cop hasnt hosted the show before, but he is no stranger to performing on the stage. In fact, he is considered one of the funniest stand-up comedians of his generation. He also received an Oscar nomination as best supporting role actor for his performance in the 2006 musical Dreamgirls.

Eddie is comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever. I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous hear to the show, said Brett Ratner, who has recently directed Murphy in the upcoming comedy Tower Heist.

Murphy was delighted by his selection. I am enormously honoured to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hop and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others. Im looking forward to working with Brett and Don on creating a show that is enjoyable for both the fans at home and for the audience at the Kodak Theatre as we all come together to celebrate and recognize the great film contributions and collaborations from past year.
