Figures from the US box continued to disappoint during the Christmas weekend with admissions down 4.5 percent from 2010. However, Tom Cruises star power has pushed his new instalment of Mission: Impossible franchise Ghost Protocol to the top of the earners list with $26.5 million domestically and over $200 millions internationally.

Other US new releases with the star power were not as successful. David Finchers The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, starring Daniel Craig, failed to draw the Swedish franchise fans to theatres, making it only to the fourth place with $13 million.

Spielbergs The Adventures of Tintin, which was released internationally in October and has been a massive success outside the US, was fifth on the domestic list with only $9.1 million.

Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson have also failed to tempt audiences to see their family pic We Bought a Zoo, which scored $7.7 millions, landing in the sixth spot.

Guy Richis Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fell to No. 2 in its second weekend with $17.8, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: Shipwrecked dropped to third with $13.3 million.
