Principal photography has begun on the film Diana, which charts the last two years of the life of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Starring Naomi Watts in the title role, the film – previously called Caught in Flight – will be shooting for nine weeks, in Croatia and Mozambique, as well as London and other locations in the southeast of England.

It co-stars Lost’s Naveen Andrews as Hasnat Khan, alongside Douglas Hodge and Juliet Stevenson.

The producers say the film, directed by Downfall’s Oliver Hirshbiegel, is a compelling portrait of Princess Diana, and shows how finding true personal happiness allowed her to achieve her defining successes as an international campaigner and humanitarian.

“I’m excited and honoured to be playing the role of a truly remarkable woman, who had such a positive and profound impact in so many ways,” enthused Watts.
