Italy’s Giffoni Film Festival to Open with Pixar’s Monsters University

Giffoni Film Festival, Europe’s largest children’s festival, will be opening this year with Monsters University, the prequel to Pixar’s Monsters & Co.

Pixar’s animated hit, directed by Dan Scanlon, has scared its way to the top of the charts after taking in $82 million in the U.S. and is to make its debut in Italy on 21 Aug.

The festival, starting 19 July and ending 28 July is aimed mainly at young viewers with over 10,000 people expected to attend and giving children the opportunity to watch new releases and learn about the filmmaking process.

Monsters University will premiere at the festival on July 19 and will join a long list of movies that have opened for the event in previous years including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

In the Italian version of the movie, voices of main characters Mike and Sully are provided by Fabrizio Biggio and Francesco Mandelli instead of the U.S. voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman.

The storyline features the two monsters before they became friends and the adventures that unfold after they meet at Monsters University.
