Straight Curve are holding a scriptwriting weekend special this weekend on 9th and 10th June.
Saturday 9th June
If you would like to learn how to write a script from scratch, then this is the perfect place to start.
Starting with your idea:
Antagonists, Protagonists and other characters and elements
Synopsis and Treatment
Writing and formatting the script
Using the “Three Act Structure”
Dialogue
The workshop includes examples and practical exercises.
Scriptwriting Level 2 with Chris Knowles Sunday 9th June
Preperation:
So you have your idea, now you need to find out how to turn it into a dramatic structure. Chris will demonstrate exactly that with the use of examples. He will also look at how to transform your idea into a working story by turning passive ideas into active ideas.
Structure:
When writing your script, find out how to use the elements of structure to advance your story.
Characters:
Taking your characters beyond the realm of the protagonist/antagonist axis and looking at ways that secondary and tertiary characters can aid primary characters.
Dialogue:
Using dialogue as the cause and effect of action. How do you make this work?
Archetypes:
Outlining the primordial qualities that help define character and the relevance of deep character traits.
On screen design:
How the on screen world environment surrounding your characters shapes the story and the character development.
Story Identification:
What makes your story right for film rather then TV, radio or theatre? You will be looking at over-structure, under-structure and the characters inward journey.
The workshop will include mini exercises and visual examples.
You will leave at the end of the weekend inspired and armed with the knowledge you need to start writing.
Level 1 is £49inc and level 2 is £99 inc book both together and save £20

Nanny Ogg looked around for something to hide behind. Granny Weatherwax’s eyebrow twitched.
“Levels, eh?” she said. “Well, I suppose I’m level one.”
“Just starting?” said Diamanda.
…
“Oh yes,” said Granny, quietly. “Just starting. Every day, just starting.” -
