Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire in Wales is one of the settings for the filming of the penultimate movie in the Harry Potter series – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The beach has been used to film the funeral scene, with Shell Cottage having been built in studio and reassembled on the beach for filming.

The stars of the movie were on set to film a scene when the tide was at it’s lowest point with Shell Cottage in the background. It was a cold and windy day and Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermoine Granger (Emma Watson), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Luna Lovegood (Evanna Lynch) – amongst others – were on set on the day for filming.

We had a chance to talk to one of the lighting techs working on the movie and it was really interesting hearing about life behind the scenes. Every single shell on the roof of shell cottage is made of fibreglass and the whole cottage was built in studio, disassembled and shipped to Freshwater West beach where it was reassembled for filming.

After filming ends on the beach it will be taken apart again and reassembled in studio for more filming.
