Veteran Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer has been hired to replace Brett Ratner as the producer of next year’s awards show.

The Academy was quick to find a replacement for Ratner, who quit yesterday over comments, in a question and answer session with fans, that were seen as being offensive to the gay community.

The President of the Academy, Tom Sherak, described Grazer as a renowned filmmaker who, over the past twenty five years, has produed a diverse and extraordinary body of work. “He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars,” he said, hinting that Grazer could bring a new host with him, after Eddie Murphy followed Ratner out of the door.

“It’s very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career,” said Grazer.

Grazer won the Best Picture Oscar in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind. He’d previously been nominated for writing Splash and for producing Apollo 13 and Frost/Nixon. His other productions include Spies Like Us, Kindergarten Cop, American Gangster, Russel Crowe’s Cinderella Man and Robin Hood, Eddie Murphy’s Nutty Professor, Bowfinger and Tower Heist and Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar.
