Argo’s Oscar hopes boosted by Producers Guild

Snubbed as a director by the Academy, Ben Affleck has been picking up his share of trophies regardless – the latest came as the Producers Guild of America picked Argo as its Best Motion Picture of the year.

The director – who also produced the film – collected the award from the PGA alongside his fellow producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov. The latest honour will boost their confidence in the race for the Academy’s Best Picture Oscar – an honour rarely separated from the Best Director prize.

The other theatrical honours went to Wreck-It Ralph for the Best Animated Feature and Searching for Sugar Man for the Best Documentary.

In the TV categories, the PGA voted Homeland the Best Episodic Drama TV prize, Modern Family the Best Episodic Comedy and Game Change won the prize for the Best Long-Form TV production.
