BAFTA goes for The King's Speech

The King’s Speech has dominated at the BAFTAs, collecting seven trophies from its fourteen nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Actor for Colin Firth, Best Supporting Actor for Geoffrey Rush and Best Supporting Actress for Helena Bonham Carter.
The only one of the major awards it missed out on was Best Director, which went to David Fincher, for The Social Network.
The King’s Speech and The Social Network shared the screenwriting honours.
The Best Actress went to Natalie Portman, for Black Swan, who was too heavily pregnant to attend the ceremony at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Sweden’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – currently being remade in English by David Fincher – won the Best Foreign Language Film and Toy Story 3 was the Best Animated Feature.
Chris Morris, known for The Day Today and Brass Eye, won the Outstanding Debut by a British film-maker for his suicide bomber comedy Four Lions.
In the only prize of the night voted for by the public, Tom Hardy was given the Rising Star award.
The Harry Potter films were honoured for their contribution to cinema and Sir Christopher Lee was awarded a fellowship of BAFTA.
