Bessons The Lady to open Rome Film Festival

Besson’s biopic of the Burmese pro-democracy activist, Aung San Suu Kayi, will open the 6th edition of Rome Film Festival next October, where it will have its European Premiere in the festival’s out-of-Competition. The premiere will attended by Besson and the stars of the movie Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis.
The film follows the personal and political journey of the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner as she agonized over the choice to nurse her sick husband in England or remain in Burma to fight for democracy.
Eventually, her defiance against Burma’s despotic regime cost her 20 years in house arrest. She was released last November.
The film will have its world premiere next month at Toronto International Film Festival.
