One of the most iconic characters of British film, James Bond, is to vanish from terrestrial TV under a deal struck between the producers and Sky Movies.

ITV has had the rights to all of the 007 movies since they were first screened in 1975, but only viewers with a subscription to Rupert Murdoch’s satellite broadcaster will be able to watch them, once the new contract begins in October.

Under the terms of the deal, Sky Movies will have the rights to show all twenty two official films – from Dr No to Quantum of Solace – as well as the 1967 spoof Casino Royale and Sean Connery’s one-off return to the role in 1983’s Never Say Never Again.

The director of Sky Movies, Ian Lewis, said “Everything about these films is iconic – whether it’s the cars, the gadgets or the catchphrases.”
