The low budget science-fiction mystery, Moon, has won the top prize at the British Independent Film Awards – Best British Independent Film.
Its director, Duncan Jones, won the award for the best first-time film-maker.
The top directing honours went to Andrea Arnold, for Fish Tank — and Armando Iannucci picked up the best screenplay award for In The Loop.
Carey Mulligan was named best actress — for her role in An Education — and the best actor was Tom Hardy, for playing the criminal Charles Bronson.
The Best Supporting Actor was John Henshaw for Looking for Eric and Anne-Marie Duff took the Best Supporting Actress prize for playing John Lennon’s mother in Nowhere Boy.
There were also awards for Sir Michael Caine and Daniel Day Lewis for their services to British cinema and independent film.
