The final major guild to announce its nominations before the anticipate Oscar nominations, The Directors Guild of America (DGA) tapped Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, David Fincher for The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, Alexander Payne for The Descendants, Martin Scorsese for Hugo and Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist.

Due to the overlapping membership of the DGA and teh Academy, the DGA nominations are considered a reliable indicator for the Oscars. But it seems that the DGA’s taste doesn’t differ much from that of other guilds, such as SAG and PGA, who also bestowed honours to the same pictures. While The Artist, The Descendants and Midnight in Paris have received SAG ensemble and PGA nominations, Hugo and Dragon Tatoo received nominations from PGA.

The DGA nominees also correlate with the Golden Globes noms, except Fincher, whose place was taken by George Clooney for The Ides of March.
