Humpday to open 17th Raindance Film Festival

The programme for the 17th Raindance Film Festival has been announced — with 75 features and more than 150 shorts — as well as a series of live events, Q&As and masterclasses.
The event will open on 30th September with the American independent feature Humpday, where sex – supposedly – becomes art. Proceedings will come to an end on the 11th October, with the English Premiere of Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience.
The jury for the event includes actors Riz Ahmed and Kerry Fox, musician and actor Tom Waits, writer/director Armando Iannucci and critics Peter Bradshaw and Jamie Graham.
The Mighty Boosh’s Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt will attend the world premiere of their feature, while British films at the festival will include Ben Wheatley’s Down Terrace, The Cry of the Owl by Jamie Thraves and Stuart Hazeldine’s Exam.
Another of the independent American films is My Suicide, which features one of the final performances of David Carradine, who died in Bangkok in June.
For the first time, the festival will have it’s own café, at the Vinyl Factory/Phonica Records basement on Poland Street in Soho, which will host interactive screenings, events, workshops, parties and daily networking happy hours.
