ITV is best channel at Edinburgh TV Festival

ITV has been named the Channel of the Year at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

The success of shows such as the crime thriller Broadchurch, with a peak audience of nearly 9 million viewers, have helped to restore the reputation of the network, whose renaissance in recent years has come about through reality shows, such as The X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

Broadchurch itself was the festival’s best new programme, while its writer Chris Chibnall was named Industry Standout Talent of the Year.

The firm behind The Voice and Who Do You Think You Are, Wall to Wall, was named Production Company of the Year.

Channel 4 was honoured for its disability awareness campaign following the Olympics, as well as its series The Undateables.
