Knightley, Mulligan and Garfield to open London Film Festival

The organisers of the London Film Festival have announced that the opening film of this year’s even will be Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, starring Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield.
The three young British stars – all now having success in Hollywood – will attend the European premiere of the drama, which is based on the best-selling novel by Kazuo Ishiguro and adapted for the screen by
Alex Garland.
Knightley and Mulligan – both Oscar nominees – and Garfield – who will be the next Spider-Man – star as friends at an idyllic English boarding school, who are forced to confront their past when a dark secret about their future comes to light.
The festival’s artistic director Sandra Hebron says Never Let Me Go “combines impeccable filmmaking, outstanding performances and
a deeply moving story.”
Romanek – who made his name with One Hour Photo – said the entire cast and crew were deeply honoured and excited to have been selected to open the festival.
The film will go on general release in the UK next January.
The programme for the rest of the festival – which runs from October 13 to 28 – will be announced next month.
