Les Mis retains UK box office top spot

There’ll be no miserable faces at Working Title, whose musical Les Miserables remained at the top of the UK Box Office chart for a fourth week, taking £2.8 million pounds last weekend, boosting its UK total to more than £30 million.

The highest new entry was Denzel Washington’s alcoholic pilot in Flight, taking half as much in his first week to come third in the chart, behind Quentin Tarantino’s slave-trading revenge western, Django Unchained, on nearly £1.7 million.

Lincoln took nearly as much as Flight on its second weekend, to take fourth place, with Life of Pi securing the final spot in the top five after seven weeks of release, it’s £849,000 taking its total to £27 million.

The Impossible, Zero Dark Thirty and Monsters Inc 3D took the next three places in the chart, before another new entry, Sylvester Stallone’s Bullet To The Head, in 9th place – one spot ahead of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand last week, but with just £429,000 in ticket sales, Stallone was actually £100,000 behind his Expendables co-star.

Tenth in the chart is Movie 43, on £397,000, just nudging The Hobbit out of the top ten.
