For the second consecutive weekend, Madagascar 3: Europe Most Wanted topped the US and international box office, grossing $35.5 million and $53 million respectively. The Dreamworks animation has earned $120.5 million domestically and $277.5 million internationally in its first 10 days of play.

 

Ridley Scott’s sci-fi thriller Prometheus continues to hold onto the second spot in the US box office with $20.2 million, but fell to the third spot overseas. The film total cume since its release is $88.9 million in the US and $128.9 million in the rest of the world.

 

The third spot in the US box was claimed by the newly released musical, Rock of Ages, which grossed $15.2 million. Starring Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russel Brand, the 80’s jukebox musical was expected to do much better, but didn’t live up to expectations.

Snow White and the Huntsman dropped to the 4th spot in the US box office with $13.8 million but continued to hold onto the 2nd spot overseas with an impressive $31.2 million. The fairy tale movie has grossed $122.6 million in the US and $124.6 million overseas since its release.

 

Another disappointing debut was Adam Sandler’s new comedy That’s My Boy, which earned only $13 million to come in No. 5. It marks Sandler’s lowest debut since Spanglish in 2004.

 

Men in Black 3 took the 4th spot in the international box office with $32.3 million followed by Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator, which drew $4.7 million.

 

British comedy The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel continued to impress in the US box office, remaining in the top 10 and adding another 2.2 million to its coffers. The film’s US total gross stands at $35.1 million.
