Leading figures from the British film industry have gathered in the Isle of Wight to pay tribute to the director and producer Anthony Minghella, who died a year ago.
Actors including Jude Law, Alan Rickman and Martin Freeman were among those who joined the film-maker’s relatives for a festival at which his seven films were screened.
Jude Law – who worked with the director in Cold Mountain and Breaking & Entering – said he always came out of Minghella’s films feeling that he’d learnt something.
Minghella’s most critically aclaimed films included The English Patient, which won nine Oscars in 1997 and The Talented Mr Ripley, for which his screenplay was nominated for an Oscar.
More recently, he had turned his attention to producing with Sydney Pollack, who also died last year.
Together, they produced The Reader, for which they were both posthumously nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, last month.
