Palin to be awarded BAFTA Fellowship

One of the father figures of modern British comedy – and travel presenter – Michael Palin is to receive one of the top honours in television in the UK.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is to present the Monty Python star with a Fellowship of the organisation at this month’s BAFTA TV awards ceremony.

BAFTA’s chairman, John Willis, said the honour was in recognition of Palin’s contribution to British television over the past five decades.

Palin, who turns 70 this month, was one of the founder members of Monty Python, best-known for skits including the Cheese Shop Sketch, the Argument Sketch, the Dead Parrot Sketch and singing I’m a Lumberjack, he later turned his attention to travel documentaries, such as Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole and most recently, Brazil with Michael Palin.

Palin described the accolade as “very high honour,” acknowledging that all his success, throughout his career, has been down to team work and the inspiration and support of others.
