Hugh Jackmans Real Steel knocks out George Clooneys Ides of March in the US box office ring over the weekend, raking $27.3 million worth of tickets leaving his competitor trailing way behind with a $10.4 millions.

Set in a futuristic world where giant robots fight to destruction for the pleasure of human spectators, Real Steel centers around a robot trainer, played by Hugh Jackman, who tries, with the help of his estranged child, to resurrect his business from a certain demise after successive losses in the ring, where all his fighting robots were annihilated.

In contrast, George Clooneys-directed political drama, Ides of March, deals with the contemporary world as it follows an ambitious campaign officer (Ryan Gosling), who ends up dictating the rules of the game for his troubled boss, the democratic presidential candidate, played by George Clooney.

Last weeks box office champion, the Family drama Dolphin Tale, slid gracefully to number 3, taking $9.2 millions, followed by Brad Pitts Moneyball, which took $7.5 million. Both films have made a total of $49 million since their release.

The controversial horror flick, The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence, made $54 thousand in just 18 theatres in its debut.
