Scott's Robin Hood to open Cannes

Sir Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood – reuniting him with his Gladiator leading man Russell Crowe – has been selected to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film – which co-stars Cate Blanchett, William Hurt and Vanessa Redgrave – won’t be featuring in the competition – so it won’t qualify for the Palme d’Or.
Sir Ridley is no stranger to the Croissette; his debut feature The Duellists won a prize there in 1977 and Thelma and Louise was also screened at the event.
The 63rd Cannes Film Festival runs from the 12th to the 23rd of May, with the director Tim Burton heading the jury.
