SCREEN EAST SEARCH FOR FEATURE PROJECTS
UK Regional Screen Agency Screen East brings 4.5m Content Investment Fund to the Cannes Film Festival
Regional Screen Agency, Screen East will be at the Cannes Film Festival from 16th – 21st May seeking to develop relationships with international organisations, and filmmakers, to explore potential projects that could be successfully based in the East of England with a 4.5m Content Investment Fund backed by the European Regional Development Fund.
The fund was successfully launched at last year’s festival with internationally celebrated director Michael Winterbottom and producer Andrew Eaton.
Screen East’s CEO Laurie Hayward said: “With nearly 2m still to invest the search is on to find four great productions that can be filmed in the East of England. For the right projects we will invest up to 500,000. We’re really excited about our slate which is coming to fruition with some great projects such as My Talks with Dean Spanley, the star-studded big screen drama and the Richard Jobson helmed New Town Killers.”
Sheryl Crown, Screen East’s Executive Producer said: “Since we launched in Cannes last year, Screen East is at the festival with 7 features, 5 of which are now in post production with stars such as Peter O’Toole, Sam Neill, Q’Orianka Kilcher, Robert Carlyle, Dougray Scott, Meera Syall, Will Patton and Bryan Brown. We look forward to working with such industry talent to grow films of international distinction.”

My Talks with Dean Spanley is set in Edwardian England where upper lips are always stiff and men from the Colonies are not entirely to be trusted, Dean Spanley reveals just how deep an Englishman’s love for his dog can go. Fisk senior (Peter O’Toole) has little time or affection for his adult son, but when the pair visit a lecture hosted by a cricket–mad Indian, they start a strange journey that eventually allows the old man to find his heart.

New Town Killers
The chase thriller tells the story of two disenchanted private bankers with the world at their feet who get their kicks from playing a twelve hour game of man hunt with people from the margins of society. Their next target, Sean, soon realises he has walked in to twelve hours of hell where his only chance of survival is to start running and keep running.
