Sony Pictures are so sure of the success of the newly rebooted Spider-Man franchise that almost a full year before the release of The Amazing Spider-Man, they’ve already announced the date of the sequel.
British actor Andrew Garfield – most recently seen in The Social Network and Never Let Me Go – is taking over the role of the web-slinging crime-fighter from Tobey Maguire, who made a success of Sam Raimi’s three outings, helming the Marvel comics adaptation.
Studios usually wait to see how films are received before green-lighting a follow-up, but a studio spokesman said the decision to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May 2014 spoke volumes about their confidence in what they were seeing.
