After breaking the record of the of the highest grossing North American debut last weekend with $207.4 million, The Avengers broke another industry record on its second weekend of release, raking $103.2 million.

The Superhero movie, which features a team of Marvel comic-book heroes such as Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), has earned $628.9 million internationally and is expected to top $1 billion worldwide by the end of the weekend, only 19 days after its release.

Trailing way behind is Tim Burtons vampire romp Dark Shadows, which opened with  $28.8 million, a far cry from the opening of the gothic directors Alice in Wonderland, which debuted with $116.1 million last year.

Inspired by the mid-1960 TV supernatural soap opera, Dark Shadows features Jonny Depp as an 18th century vampire who gushes out of his two centuries burial and return to his ancestral homestead in 1970, aiming to rebuild his familys lost fortunes.

Romantic comedy Think Like A Man continued to impress, claiming the third spot with $6.3 million.

Another record breaker, The Hunger Games, is still in the game, holding to number four with $4.4 million, totalling its domestic gross to $388 million, followed by Zac Efrons romantic drama The Lucky One with $4.1 million.

British crowd-pleaser The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel broke into the top 10 in its second weekend as it expanded to 178 theatres, taking $2.7 million.
