Stephen King’s Hit TV Show “Under The Dome” Scores a Second Season

Sheriff Linda (Natalie Martinez) is cut off from her husband by a mysterious dome.

The American TV network CBS has green lit a second season of the hit summer drama, Under the Dome.

Based on Stephen King’s best selling novel of the same name, the series has had massive shoes to fill and hefty expectations to meet. It managed to score big in ratings, proving its worth against some of summer’s most popular shows.

According to the US ratings company Nielsen, Under the Dome is averaging 13.84 million viewers, and was number one on the top ten list ahead of NCIS, The Bachelorette, and Big Brother, in the week of July 15th.  It holds onto 3.5/10 viewers in the age range of 18-49, and shows even more ratings growth in people who watch via DVR.

King is set to write the first of a 13 episode second season scheduled to return in the summer of 2014.

The popular series is also headed overseas. Although premier dates remain unknown, Channel 5 has bought the rights to air Under the Dome in the UK.

Under the Dome is produced by CBS Television Studios in collaboration with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
