Winners announced at Toronto Film Festival
Sundance’s grand jury winner, “Precious”, has won the 34th Toronto Film Festival’s People’s Choice prize.
“Precious” is an inner-city drama, based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire. It was directed by Lee Daniels and produced by Oprah Winfrey.
Judging from the public and critics warm reception of this year’s winner, we could see a repetition of the phenomenal success of last year’s winner “Slumdog Millionaire”, which marched all the way to the Oscars winning 8 trophies.
The first and second runners-up were “Mao’s Last Dancer” from Australian Director Bruce Beresford’s and “Micmac’s” from French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Michael Moor’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” was the runner-up in the documentary Audience award. The winner was Leanne Pooley’s “The Topp Twins,” about the Kiwi lesbian C&W singing duo.
