Just when you thought the film awards season was over, Empire magazine has gone and handed out some more honours.
Readers have picked Inception as their Best Film of 2010.
Their Best Actor was Colin Firth, no stranger to awards season for his role in The King’s Speech.
The Swedish actress Noomi Rapace was given the Best Actress prize for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which also won the Best Thriller award.
The Best Horror was The Last Exorcism and the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy prize went to the penultimate instalment of the Harry Potter franchise.
Empire readers gave the Best Comedy award to Chris Morris, for his debut feature Four Lions.
Kick-Ass was the Best British Film.
Other awards went to the actress Keira Knightley, as the Empire Hero, the actor Gary Oldman as the Empire Icon and the director Edgar Wright, who picked up both the Inspiration prize as well as the Best Director honour for Scott Pilgrim Versus the World.
The event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s West End also honours an Empire reader for a one-minute long homage to one of the big films of the year. This year’s “Done in 60 Seconds” prize went to Maeve Stram, for her take on 127 Hours.
Empire’s Editor Mark Dinning said it had been a particularly interesting year for films, because rather than being filled with sequels and spin-offs, originality and style reigned supreme.
