Perfect Stranger – Review

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

When investigative reporter Rowina Price (Berry) learns her friend’s murder might be connected to powerful ad executive Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), with the help of her colleague Miles Haley (Giovanni Ribisi), she goes undercover at Hill’s advertising agency. Posing as Katherine, the temp, and Veronica a girl Hill flirts with online Rowena tries to lure him out.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?

Everyone has secrets and no one is what they seem in this somewhat trashy but fun thriller directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross).
With more red herrings than you can shake a stick at you get sucked into this murky world of double dealing, sleaze, internet chat rooms and porn.
Halle Berry, proving she is still one of sexiest women in the world at 40,
is as watchable as ever while Bruce Willis is seductive and charming as the arrogant and powerful Hill. Giovanni Ribisi is just creepy from the onset. It’s a shame they just simply gloss over his character’s unhealthy infatuation with Berry and his love of kinky internet sex. That might have been worth pursuing. There is also a gratuitous shot of Berry putting on sexy underwear. I guess that’s one for the boys.
The plot is silly and implausible but with its slick look and direction as well as solid performances it’s an enjoyable ride. Just play along and you’ll find you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the end.
