Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom to close Cannes

A post-apartheid era police thriller, Zulu, has been picked to close the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Jérôme Salle, the film stars Forest Whitaker and Orlando Bloom as Cape Town cops, who get caught up in a suspenseful search. The festival organisers say Zulu combines elements of political film noir and social study.

Zulu is based on a novel of the same name by Caryl Férey and co-written by Julien Rappeneau.

Whitaker has previously won the Best Actor prize at Cannes for playing the jazz musician Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood’s Bird, in 1988.

This year’s festival opens on 15th May with Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. The full list of films to be judged by a jury headed by Steven Spielberg, will be announced next week.
