The British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with a misdemeanour offence in New Orleans.

He’s been charged with criminal damage to property after a photographer’s iPhone was thrown through a window in the city in March.

The Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bowman says Brand – most recently seen in Rock of Ages – is expected to be invited to plead guilty or not guilty at a hearing within a week, but he does not have to attend in person. If the case goes to trial, it will be heard in the city’s Municipal Court.

The maximum sentence for the offence is up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $500, but UKscreen understands that it is very unlikely that he would face a jail sentence, because of his actions after the incident.
