Found myself with some free time in London so I ventured into the East End to check out the Olympic Stadium.
 Stratford, once a grimy area notable only for the Two Puddings pub, is now a gleaming, mini-metropolis with a brand new station, giant shopping mall, tree-lined walkways and, of course, the sprawling Olympic Park.
   Towering over it all is the Orbit, which has just been unveiled as the biggest sculpture in the UK and which is inevitably attracting criticism and condemnation.

   Costing 20 million pounds it is taller than the Statue of Liberty and when it opens to the public in July 5,000 visitors a day will be able to take the elevator up the 35 storeys to the top. 
   But I have to agree with critics who have variously described it as an exploding red paper clip and a fairground helter-skelter gone wrong.  
  To me it looked a bit like something Heath Robinson might have conjured up during a particularly bad nightmare.
