This is always a difficult area. The sad fact is that home-burnt discs are never going to be as good as professionally glass mastered ones. However, here are a few rules of thumb:-
    1. The +R/+RW format is said to be more compatible with more devices, but I have no evidence of this either way.
    2. ALWAYS burn your disc at x1 speed, even if your drive and discs are rated at higher speeds.
    3. ALWAYS do a full verify after burning. If your burning software doesn’t allow this, then you need to upgrade to better software – eg Roxio Toast.
    4. ALWAYS use good quality stock – eg Verbatim, Xerox, Apple, Imation or Packard Bell – I have never had a reject disc from one of these manufacturers – other brands you’ve never heard of are just not worth the risk and generally have a 50 per cent failure rate.
    5. You can get some more advice here http://forums.dvdoctor.net/
    Good Luck.

The short answer is yes. However, it depends on how “guerrilla” you want to be about the shoot.
When it comes to a church graveyard, if the graves are more than a 100 years old, you’ll probably not be offending any family members by shooting there, but you will certainly be an irritant to the church warden, etc, so you definitely need to get clearance and will probably have to make a donation to the church roof fund as a gesture of good faith, etc.
As for the park, you could probably get away with it without permission, but it depends on how major/popular the park is and whether you’re shooting at the weekend or weekday, and day as opposed to night. I suggest you approach the local council’s parks department if you want permission. Whether you have permission or not, one thing you absolutely won’t be able to do is control the location. I shot in a park a long time ago and there was a picnic/campside sing-song going on 30 yards away all day and there was nothing we could do about it. We ended up having to replace quite a bit of the sound. If you want to “steal” the location, I suggest you shoot on a weekday that you know that the parks department aren’t doing any work on the park. Most parks depts have specific days they work on specific parks, so keep an eye on the park and work out which days those are.
    Hope that helps. Good luck.
