The producers of the twenty third film in the Bond franchise have confirmed that the agent’s much-loved gadget guru Q is to return to the big screen.
The role – played in seventeen films by Desmond Llewelyn and most recently by John Cleese – will be taken on by Ben Whishaw. He’s best known for his lead roles in the BBC dramas Criminal Justice and The Hours and features, including Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, the Bob Dylan film I’m Not There and the Keats biopic Bright Star.
The Skyfall producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said it was a real thrill to confirm Q’s return to the franchise, saying they were delighted to have the beloved character back.
The film – directed by the Oscar-winning Sam Mendes – is due for release in the UK in October.
