The makers of the controversial film The Human Centipede 2 have managed to secure a DVD release, four months after the British Board of Film Classification refused to grant it a certificate.

In June, the BBFC said the film – about a sexually-motivated psychopath who stitches people together – made no effort to portray any of the victims in the film as anything other than objects to be brutalised, degraded and mutilated for the amusement and arousal of the central character, as well as for the pleasure of the audience. The BBFC also said at the time that it did not think it would be possible to make an acceptable version of the film even with cuts.

But after from the director Tom Six, the distributor has agreed to thirty two cuts, from eight scenes — shorting the film by more than two and a half minutes.

The BBFC says the cuts related to sexual violence, graphic gore and the possibility of breach of the law relating to obscenity.
The President of the BBFC, Sir Quentin Thomas said these cuts produced a work which many would still find difficult, but which he accepted could be classified with an 18 certificate.

The distributors, Eureka Entertainment, said they were pleased that they had reached an agreement to produce a very viable cut which would excite and challenge fans. They say they’re disappointed that they’ve had to make cuts, but believe the storyline has not be compromised and the level of horror has been sustained.
