It was a busy weekend in the US, with a snowstorm ravishing the east cost, the World Series, and Halloween festivities across the country, but the audiences continued to flock to the movies.

Dreamworks animation about cats, Puss in Boots, clawed its way to the top with a $34 million debut. Although the number seems impressive, this was one of the worst debuts of animated movies. In comparison, Dreamworks Megamind began with $46 million last year.

Dropping to the second place was Paramounts horror flick, Paranormal Activity 3, claiming $18.5 million in its second weekend. So far the low budget movie, which cost only $5 million to make, has scared up $81.3 million.

Science fiction thriller, In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, had to be content with 3rd place, taking only $12 million in its opening weekend. The film, which has failed to impress the critics, cost Fox $40 million.

The 4th and 5th places were occupied by dancing drama, Footloose, with $5.4 million, and Johnnys Depps romp, The Rum Diary, with a disappointing $5 million debut. Footloose, which cost $24 million, has earned $38.5 since its release 17 days ago.
