We need DV Camera ops with own kit to shoot LEVY (Radio 1 and XFM playlisted) at the Water Rats on Tuesday 20/09/05. This is unpaid, but valuable work for One little Indian Records (bjork’s label).

yes we’ve all got todo some freeebies but don’t they just take the ****!!!!There seems to be a few postings regarding the need for shooters to provide camera and labour to shoot gigs for the record label ONE LITTLE INDIAN(Bjork’s label) are we to assume that as not even a token payment for expenses is mentioned the record label is being very cheapskte ?? presumably the video that looks like its going to be shot for free by ukscreen shooters is being used by said record label to promote either themselves or the “band ” in question . thereby benefitting them financially.wouldnt a percentage of possible revenue generated be in order, hell there isn’t the usuall “FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE THERE MAY BE A POSSIBILITY OF WORK IN THE FUTURE”

don’t get me wrong i work for nothing and have done so on numerous occasions if the project is interesting and the person posting the request is genuine and not out to make a quick buck , but these jokers – sorry if that offends take the cake!! what appears to be a proper profit making company wanting people to work for free to make their profits bigger makes my blood boil!! . (DISCUSS)First off if your not actually working for ONE LITTLE INDIAN you need to clarify your posting/reword your ad to make it clearer. second More fool you if your prepared to do what you do for free sounds like they are using you ,and your not realizing it !! whoever is getting you to produce these videos/ dvd’s must be laughing all the way to the bank , or are you telling me a bonafide record label is expecting dvd’s of gigs to be made with no buget?? getting experience/working on **** poor productions as you call them are all well and good , those productions are usually the vision of an individual without a pot to p**s in if you’ll excuse the expression , but those of us who enter into collaborations know this , we hope to meet up with like minded people and produce films .
If you consider watching a gig thru a viewfinder as payment or getting a few seconds of it as a showreel , you’re welcome to it . but dont get upset when someone points out that you or whoever is getting you to do these gigs is taking the p**s .And dont be suprised when you get a reputation as someone who works for free because if thats what you expect as payment thats all youll ever get.!!..Hey guys easy!!
I’m not actually working for One Little Indian, ok! I’m a student filmmaker, happy to shoot gigs for them for free because its fantastic experience. I was just wondering if others wanted to share the experience. If not, tough.
We all know there’s too much competition in this business and that the only way to get in and have a decent showreel when you’re a student is to be prepared to do work for free. You all do it on this site, making **** poor films for thirty-something wannabes who are all having mid life crises and have completely egotisitcal, unrealistic hopes of being Steven Spielberg.
Volunteering to shoot concerts for an established record company which works with the best visualists in the business is a lot more rewarding, I can tell you that,
So, get off your high horses! You get a free concert performance, free cds and great footage to put on your showreel!

The concerts are for online promotion and I volunteered my services out of my interest for the bands. No one asked me to do it, and I have total creative control. Honestly, I really don’t have a problem with it. I just got a £10,000 deal for a documentary thanks to my free work here. Good things come to those who wait.my original posting still stands you put yourself forward as a representative of a record label who are in the business of making a bob or two expecting people to work for nothing for a profit making company, if you had been a bit more forthcoming with the truth in your original posting i.e explained where you were coming from and your motivation we wouldnt be having this tennis match…
now i and everyone else have read your subsequent postings we can see where your coming from …….Good for you.
Nonetheless, this argument is somewhat ridiculous. No one forces anyone to work for free if they don’t want to. I posted here in case people who need experience or just want to have fun with their cameras (and thats the majority of people on UK screen, wether you like it or not) are interested in filming an interesting concert and getting contacts. Turns out I had lots of interested people and we got some really good footage.
But as I said, no one’s forcing anyone to do anything here. The record company isn’t telling me to do anything, I’m not using slave labour, I’m just sharing a hobby. Argue as much as you like, theres no difference between shooting stuff for a well known record label or shooting stuff for a former lawyer with delusions of grandeur who can’t tell a PD150 from his **** (which is what I dealt with last time I volunteered my services for free for so called indie filmmakers on this board)…other than the fact that the record label shoot gets you: free CDs/DVDs, invitation to concerts, parties and showcases, contacts, and (if you’re any good) production and dvd distribution deals….i.e: money.
