Models Direct and Models Online Experiences…?

Hi – Newbie to the site and just wondered if anyone has any positive experiences of the company ‘Models Direct’? I – maybe foolishly – joined very recently and was flattered when they offered a ‘Three-Year Contract’ for modelling and tv / film work, of course, a fee…
I’ve since found this site and the thread and am beginning to think it all might be a bit of a scam – has anyone actually found work through them, and what’s all this they keep saying about the ‘UK Launch’ of an ‘International Talent’ website where you can upload your profile?! *bewildered*
Also, anyone heard of ‘Models Online’? They don’t seem to claim to be an agency, but again seemed very interested and invited me to have a professional portfolio shoot taken free of charge – BUT (and it’s a big but!) – if I want copies of them I’d need to pay. They seemed a little keen to stress that nobody gets into modelling or extra work without professional photographs (probably true enough), but has anyone worked with them or heard about them before? Are their photographs really any good, or worth the money?

Think I’ll try one of the bigger names for now to sign-up as an extra; even if the competition would be harder, at least they’re more likely to be reputable. Failing that, I might stick to my day job! :oD

All reputable agents make their money by finding you work and do not charge any fees for joining.
Perhaps you should try ringing the Spotlight on 0207 437 7631 and ask for a contacts book. Its lists hundreds of reputable agents throughout the UK. Also you could try London yellow pages and look under the model agencies. Again there should be plenty of contacts.
As for models direct, i know they advertise a lot but they do not sound quite right to me. My advice is to avoid them.

Run away as fast as you can.Do NOT give your money to ANYONE at any stage.
You are NOT alone we have ALL been there at one stage or another and learn the ways soon enough.

Contacts is a very useful publication but just because an agent is listed in the book doesn’t mean they are any good/well established/experienced. You would still need to do some homework before joining them. I know it seems really tempting to join an agency if they will have you but it is not true that any agent is better than no agent. A good agency will happily answer your questions – if they won’t answer queries, perhaps they have something to hide.

Hi Andy.
They are a reputable Company, They have been in the biz for about 12 years.
Regarding there international talent search launch, I am currently looking into becoming an agent for them. They work through advertising in the yellow pages country wide, have one central place in norwich, anyone registered or requiring models are centraly linked from all over the country. ( They have ad,s in all yellow page direcories)
