I too paid money to Zen, but I have been successfull through them. Like any agency they will look for the actor/model that meets the brief that they have been sent by the casting agency. Bottom line is if your face does not fit the image in the casting directors head you are unlikely to get the job. I myself have only had 8 or 9 castings, but have secured work on 2 occassions, some of the castings i have been to were split over three or four days and involved hundreds of potential hopefulls.
The harsh reality is that unless you are extremely atractive, talented or or interesting (looking that is) or you are what the casting company have in mind for the part, you aint going to get it.
Stop your moaning about how you are being ripped off, and find an alternate agency if you are not happy, you do not have to sign up with anyone if you don’t want to.I’m not quite sure where this posting sprang from or what it is in response to but I would urge ANYONE thinking of joining an agency to do as much research as possible before signing with anyone. If you type ZEN directories into Google you come up with some pretty illuminating information.
An agent who charges an up front fee will be laughing all the way to the bank. They have no need to do anything else for you but cash your cheque. Of course there are no guarantees of work for actors. All of the points you make about being right for the part are are absolutely true. Agents can submit clients’ details to casting directors and never have them called in for castings. Agents can work incredibly hard for their clients and never get them any work. However, if you have already paid them some money, they don’t have much incentive to help you to find work. Much easier to attract more hopefuls who will hand over some more money.There’s a lot of these agency scams everywhere..
At that time, when I was told about Zen Network.. I thought it would be cool to join..
But then after handing almost £100 to them. I didn’t hear anything.
It wasn’t until I went filming again, someone mentioned to me not to join Zen Network. Once I learned the truth.. that was it. My mind says ‘You live and you learn..’
We all have to be careful now.
If anyone’s not sure.. either find out from other people or don’t bother join at all.2 credits since 2003 does not “successful” make!
If you were with a decent agent, you would have many MANY more…particularly as it very is rare to find someone of your stature that can leap tall buildings in a single bound!! Different gets work in the commercials world as they tend to stand out a bit at castings.
Zen have the worst reputation in the business…don’t touch them with a 10ft bargepole.

I was also ripped off by them a long time ago, they sent me to a horrid photographer on Oxford st who charged a bomb for a dysmal picture, so keen were they to get their grubby paws on my student loan!
Then they kept changing their phone numbers and the only person I know who ever got any work through them had to chase her money for 6months plus.
Keep well clear.
